When I set out on my mission to write, record & release a new track every month during 2024 I mentioned that there would be some collaborations.

Here is the first one, which is titled “Undeserved Survival” and features the lyrics and vocals of my good friend “I don’t know my name but Ash will do…”

I call him Ash 😊 and I find him inspirational. Ash has overcome chronic alcoholism and a life of homelessness, police cells and regularly being sectioned to live a good and useful life today. As well as his work supporting the homeless he has recently set up a support group for others who, like him, suffer from BPD.

The song is in two parts and, with his customary understatement, Ash says this:

“The words to the first half of this are from my goodbye letter to alcohol that I wrote on the last day of January 2016. At the time I was in a strange place, still bitter and angry at my lot in life.

The second half is a reflection of where I'm at now in my sobriety with lots of acceptance and gratitude.

Though I lapsed twice since January 2016, my last drink was on the 9th of August 2017 and 6 sober years later, I reflect back on the journey to now and how I feel today.”

This track is very close to my heart. All proceeds will go to the BPD support group.
